We are all flawed human beings. We don’t always have the motivation to work or study. Sometimes we lack the drive and ambition to get stuff done. No one strategy works for every individual when it comes to productivity, but there are a few ways you can give yourself the push you need to get through this phase. Read on to find out some tips and tricks on what to do when you have no motivation.

Forgive yourself

The first thing to do, once you acknowledge that you have no motivation to study or work or complete your tasks, is to banish the inner critic that makes you feel unworthy or guilty. Don’t waste precious time and energy judging yourself, instead find ways to rejuvenate and recharge so you can get back to your old, motivated self. Practice self-compassion because research has shown that you are more likely to face adversity or challenges when you have compassion and understanding for yourself. We can sometimes be too harsh on ourselves when we don’t achieve what we set out to do, but remember, that if you are feeling exhausted physically or mentally, or both, it’s your body and mind sending you a message and you should listen to it.

Spend some time in nature

Don’t underestimate the importance of being in nature. If you are feeling demotivated and want to feel refreshed. Then a nice walk in the fresh air can help with your motivation. A 2013 study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that walking half a mile through a green space can reduce brain fatigue. Nature offers a calming benefit to the brain which will help you push through your lack of motivation and tackle the tough task. A change of scenery or distraction can sometimes work wonders when you feel mentally stuck.

Reward yourself

If you are struggling to find a reason to complete your task or study, why not set a reward for yourself when you complete a goal? It can be anything, something that you enjoy doing, it’s a great way to keep the motivation flowing. It will help you to change the way you think, you will think positively about what you have achieved rather than how much progress you have left. Reward yourself with a little luxury and it will leave you feeling happier and inspired to continue.

Visualize your goals

Visualization is another great way to motivate yourself. Whether it’s creating an inspirational board on Pinterest, a poster, or creating a color-coded list of what you need to do, when you physically see your goals, you are more likely to achieve them. When you create your vision board, ensure that it is in plain sight, so when you feel your motivation dropping, it will give you the much-needed boost to keep going.

Take a break

If you have tried multiple strategies and you cannot seem to find the motivation to work or study, then take a break. You might find that all you need is something to eat or a power nap, your body and mind need some rest before you attempt to study or work to your full potential. Know the importance of taking breaks and being kind to yourself. Remember, you are not invincible, make sure you are fueling yourself with the right food and getting plenty of sleep to ensure optimal performance in your studies and work.
